英國媒體近日報導指，被控違反國安法的壹傳媒創辦人黎智英，他的律師團隊去信英國首相蘇納克，商討釋放黎智英的可能渠道。事件引發港府的強烈不滿。
黎智英為英國公民，面臨港區《國安法》「勾結外國或者境外勢力危害國家安全罪」的指控，最嚴重會被判終身監禁。英國廣播公司BBC10日報導，稱黎可能因此要在獄中度過餘生，其國際律師團隊在去信英國政府時，提出希望討論確保使黎獲釋的可能方法（potential ways to secure Mr Lai’s release），並形容案件「深受關注」（deeply concerning）和「具象徵意義」（emblematic）。
報道提到，黎在英國的法律團隊已連續要求與外交部兩名部長會面，但分別被拒絕及無得到答覆。信中又提到，英國政府本月較早前同意黎的國際律師團隊，會見外交部一名部長。領導該團隊的英國御用大律師Caoilfhionn Gallagher在信中強調，黎去年被控欺詐罪成後，美國政府譴責，但英國政府沒有發表正式聲明。
路透社報導，黎智英的法律團隊10日已會見曾在國會擔任要職的卓雅敏（Anne-Marie Belinda Trevelyan）。英國首相發言人稱，英國政府會永遠支持權利、自由及法治。
港府10日深夜11時42分發聲明，回應上述報道，「反對及譴責」黎的國際律師團隊及英國政府，「企圖破壞」香港法治和「干預」香港司法獨立審判權的行為，聲稱指控香港特區政府針對包括黎智英在內的一些人士是「不實的」。
黎智英被指在租用將軍澳工業邨大樓，開設《蘋果日報》期間，讓其名下顧問公司力高在蘋果大樓內營運，但沒有向地主科技園公司申報，被法庭裁定「欺詐」罪成，上月10日重判其監禁5年9個月，罰款200萬元，及不得擔任公司管理層等資格8年。
