对于中国近期急速扩散的疫情，台湾总统蔡英文新年首日表示，台湾愿意提供必要的协助，帮助更多人走出疫情。她同时指出，中共在台湾附近的军事活动不利于和平与稳定。
蔡英文1月1日在总统府发表新年谈话，表示注意到中国疫情升温状况，“只要有需要，基于人道关怀的立场，我们愿意提供必要的协助，帮助更多人走出疫情，有个健康而平安的新年。”蔡英文未详细说明将提供什么样的必要协助。
中共领导人习近平去年12月31日发表新年贺词称，“海峡两岸一家亲，衷心希望两岸同胞相向而行、携手并进”等。习近平的讲话未提及寻求将台湾置于中共的控制之下。
蔡英文回应说，她注意到习近平的“温和”言论，但她要提醒，中共在台湾周边的军事活动，无助于两岸关系，也无助于区域的和平稳定。
就在蔡英文谈话后不久，台湾国防部当天表示，在过去24小时内，12架共机越过台湾海峡中线。该中线此前一直是两岸之间的非正式缓冲区。
去年8月，美国众议院议长佩洛西访台后，中共在台海周边进行大规模演习。蔡英文指，台湾沉稳应对，让世界看到台湾的坚韧和捍卫自由的决心。
蔡英文呼吁北京当局，台海的和平稳定，是区域内各方的共同责任，也是所有人的共同期待。从疫情到全球政经变局，两岸正经历许多同样的挑战，而战争从来都不是解决问题的选项，只有对话、合作，共同以促进区域的稳定发展为目标，才能够让更多人得到安全和幸福。
蔡英文表示，若受到攻击，台湾会自卫，只有2,300万人民才能决定他们的未来。中共视蔡英文为分裂分子，拒绝与她接触。
敲定民生经济四大目标
在内政方面，蔡英文表示，面对全球持续的通膨压力、经济衰退风险，去年12月31日召开国安高层会议，提出“减轻人民负担、稳定民生物价、调整产业体质、维持经济动能”四大目标，希望透过政府适度扩大财政支出，保障民众生活品质、维系短期经济成长动能、兼顾产业长期竞争力转型。
中国入境旅客 首日PCR每4人有1阳
针对近来中国疫情升温，从1月1至31日止，除维持不开放中国观光客来台外，经由中国4个直航航线及“金马地区民众春节交通专案”来台旅客，入境时须完成边境PCR采检，其后可返回住所进行7天自主防疫，等待结果出炉。
中央流行疫情指挥中心2日公布，1日自桃园国际机场入境的中国来台旅客，共采检524人次，其中阴性为378人、阳性为146人，阳性率为27.8%。
先前中国飞往意大利的航班中，120名旅客有62人被检出阳性，比例52%，各国因此陆续提高对中国入境者的防疫措施。
