據《悉尼晨鋒報》報道，新州州長Dominic Perrottet周一表示，擬議的計劃借鑑了英國的家庭暴力披露計劃，將幫助澳人為他們的關係做出明智的決定。
Perrottet在一份聲明中說，太多「令人心碎」的家暴案件中，肇事者有家庭暴力犯罪史，但他們的伴侶對此毫不知情。
根據「Right to Ask”計劃，新州警方將有權向潛在的受害者披露有關家庭暴力犯罪者的信息。
該計劃將使家暴潛在受害人能夠通過在線門戶網站或電話線申請訪問有關其伴侶的信息，這些信息將以多種語言提供。任何信息在提供之前都會得到新州警方的批准，並實施嚴格的隱私控制，惡意利用該信息者會受到刑事處罰。
反家暴機構Full Stop Australia首席執行官Hayley Foster表示，該計劃的試點是「令人鼓舞」的一步，但它不會是靈丹妙藥，甚至不會是「保障人們安全計劃的核心」。
Foster表示，2016年在新州試行的一項類似計劃僅在少數幾個試點地點實施，採用率低，且未被視為對資金的有效利用。
Foster說，在交往早期階段潛在受害人不太可能使用該計劃服務，但在已經發生暴力的情況下且受害人希望向警方了解更多信息時，該計劃可能「非常有用」。
目前，澳洲只有南澳於2018年首次開始實行家暴史公開計劃，超過1000人查詢其現任或前任伴侶的犯罪記錄。
新州政府於周一與家庭暴力機構會面，討論Right to Ask計劃的實施，並將在12個月後審查其實施情況。
