武漢自1月23日宣布「封城」後，大陸律師陳秋實、武漢居民方斌、央視前記者李澤華成為「公民記者」，深入「疫爆點」揭露武肺疫情的真相。不過，3人先後被當局帶走，除李澤華周三「現身」外，其餘兩人仍然失蹤。近日，陳秋實的好友、格鬥狂人徐曉冬表示，透過內部人士知道陳秋實被國保帶走並接受「監視居住」，但他也無法得知好友的下落。
陳秋實在武漢採訪疫情已失蹤超過77天，他的好友徐曉冬在接受《蘋果日報》採訪時稱，最初都有跟他聯絡，「但陳的家人說有關部門要求不能跟他聯繫」。徐直指，陳秋實被「監視居住」，現在是犯罪嫌疑人，事件已提升至案件，目前當局正在對其展開調查，估計「秋實身處在武漢的周邊地區」。
早前陳秋實在反送中運動期間親赴香港實地報道，這次又揭露武漢疫情真相，徐曉東表示：「我覺得秋實在武漢的所作所為，完全是符合中華人民共和國的憲法，沒有任何一條違法，如果說他在疫情期間到處走的話，那只是違反一些規定，但是沒有違反國家的法律，所以還是希望秋實早一點出來，當局早一些給大家一點解釋，給一個明確的法律解釋。」他又批評，大陸的訊息比較閉塞，中共政府根本不讓民眾知道武肺疫情消息，「真實的情況我也不知道，一旦我知道的情況，我一定會說出來，但現在由於新聞的封鎖和不透明，很多真實的東西我也不知道。」
一位身處海外的武漢人在Twitter開設賬號「武漢普通人」，經常在網上發布武漢的消息，他向《蘋果日報》表示，「大陸目前任何時候都是非常敏感的，被失聯的他們都是出於自己內心深層的良知而心動的，說俗一點就是信仰。一旦涉及信仰就不是物資誘惑所能動容的。我本人沒這個信仰，膽子比較小。」
「武漢普通人」直言：「中國沒有公民記者，只有一群還尚存良知之士。對於未來這群勇士的處境我的看法非常悲觀，極度悲觀，CCP（中國共產黨）對自己人都大清洗，何況外人。」
「人權觀察」研究員王亞秋向《蘋果日報》表示，從2018年底開始，中國政府開始全面清算在大陸「翻牆」上Twitter的用戶，有幾百到上千人在國內被抓，就是因為他們在Twitter發布反政府言論，「這些人在國內挺害怕的，我跟很多人有聯繫，現在上推特也很危險的，我不在推特發布任何個人訊息，因在國內是有一種方法，警方能找出是誰用推特。」
她又指，另一批從大陸來到國外的人在外國社交網絡也會小心發言，「他們主要擔心能否回國，自己家人是否安全，整體來說，你是從大陸出來的，你是住在大陸還是不住在大陸，上推特的時候都是有顧慮的……這些事情，大陸留學生都是知道的，都會思考一下在國外的言論會不會影響到家人，自我審查是一個很普遍的現象。」
觀察中國言論問題有15年時間的王亞秋稱，在中國「任何獨立調查都是有危險的」，揭露汶川地震「豆腐渣」工程的四川作家譚作人於2010年就被判刑5年，對於陳秋實、方斌和李澤華深入武漢揭露疫情真相後失蹤，「人權觀察」一直都有聯絡3人身邊的朋友，但「朋友都說現在不方便說。」她坦言：「這幾年的情況是越來越差的，所以他們被帶走……對我來說不是一個意外的事情。」
王亞秋指，陳秋實是第一個被警方帶走，帶走的時候說是「醫學隔離」，隔離之後是不是14天應該被釋放了，但現在已經兩個多月，沒有任何消息；方斌也是一樣。對於曾於央視工作的李澤華深入武漢報道，她認為李只是個別例子，「（他）面對很大的風險，還做這樣的事情」。以她認識在國家媒體工作的員工對中國政府有很多批評，也有很好的想法，但因為工作沒辦法。
曾於武漢醫院拍到多具遺體的方斌，在YouTube展示一張寫有「全民反抗、還政於民」的字條後就被警察破門入屋帶走，王亞秋認為，方斌等人正在做「一種inspiration（鼓舞人心）的事情，中國人都活得很壓抑，都沒有言論自由，當你看到一個人出來說『我是陳秋實、我批評中國政府』，這是很震撼的，陳秋實為什麼選擇這麼一條路？因為總是有種人是很勇敢的，這些人就是：我要說話，言論自由就是我的天賦人權，每個社會都會有這樣的人，非常令人崇拜的。」
中國律師陳秋實在1月23日武漢封城後一天抵達武漢，他當時對着鏡頭向大家保證，他的報導絕不造謠，實事求是。然後，他從武漢發出醫院、海鮮市場、街頭實景等影片，向外界展示一個與官媒分別很大的武漢。他的報導在2月7日戛然而止，最後他在YouTube頻道告訴母親，他要去拍攝武漢方艙醫院的情況，然後於當天失蹤，至今無音訊。
武漢商人方斌於2月1日拍下武漢第五醫院在5分鐘搬出8具屍體的慘況，事後被公安帶走幾小時後才獲釋。2月9日，他在YouTube發布最後的影片顯示「全民反抗、還政於民」的字條，穿着防護衣的人敲門要求查體溫，他說自己體溫沒問題，試圖拒絕，但消防員破門入屋，便衣警察將其強行帶走。
央視前記者李澤華，他的採訪目標包括舉辦萬家宴的武漢百步亭小區，天價招聘搬屍員的殯儀館、外地農民工滯留的武昌火車站……最後，他碰觸了紅線──武漢P4實驗室。2月26日，李澤華在YouTube的影片自述因探訪武漢P4實驗室，正在遭國安追捕。這個實驗室被懷疑是造成疫情的源頭。當晚，李澤華在居住地YouTube直播4小時，最後幾個戴口罩的人進入他的房間。直播瞬間黑屏。
4月22日，李澤華現身YouTube個人頻道，表明影片錄製日期是4月16日，指過去一個多月時間以來，對他來說世界似乎已經不一樣了。他回顧2月26日被公安以「涉嫌擾亂公共秩序」帶走，翌日深夜，派出所長考慮到他曾到青山火葬場等疫區，被安排到定點隔離酒店醫學觀察，手機交由朋友保管，直至3月14日，在家人陪同下坐車抵達老家隔離至3月28日。
