1月25日凌晨，一艘載有22名船員的香港籍貨輪在日本長崎縣外海沉沒。中國駐日領事館稱，截止26日中午，確認有6名中國籍船員遇難。
據日本當地媒體報導，1月25日凌辱，一輛滿載木材的香港籍貨輪在日本長崎縣外海發生事故，之後船身逐漸傾斜、進水，隨後沉沒，船上22名船員皆為中國籍或緬甸籍。據悉，船隻沉沒地離日本長崎縣西南方約160公里，韓國濟州島以南約150公里處。
據中央社報導，1月26日，中國駐福岡總領事館在微信公眾號發文稱，中國駐福岡總領事律桂軍在與中國環球電視網（CGTN）聯機受訪時稱，截至26日中午，已搜尋到13名船員，其中5人無生命危險，包括4名中國籍船員；另外8名船員已確認死亡，包括6名中國籍船員。
報導稱，1月26日上午，中國駐日本大使孔鉉佑委派駐福岡總領事館前方工作組去探望4名獲救的中國籍船員；前方工作組要求日本有關部門盡力搜救，儘快找到其餘9名下落不明的船員，對遇難者做好善後工作。
據悉，發生事故的貨輪是香港籍貨輪JINTIAN號，排水量6651噸。1月24日晚11時15分左右，JINTIAN號在日屬經濟區發出求救訊號，大約3個半小時後沉沒。
日本海上保安廳發言人說，事發當時海上風浪很大。並稱，其中有6名船員是被協助這次行動的韓國海洋警察廳所救。
