5月1日，北大中文教授张颐武发表了一则有关防疫的帖子，文字很短约百余字，却被指出有12处语病。张教授回应，“随手写的，没什么硬伤”，引发群嘲。
5月1日，北京大学中文系教授、博士生导师张颐武（拥有920万粉丝）在微博上发表了一则有关上海防疫的帖子，其内容是“专家作用不能忽视，有叶财德这样一些专业的有经验的社区防控的专家的指点帮助，上海防控的水平有了提高，总体感染下降了。这当然上海的所有人共同努力的成果。现在把救治提高，让全国的高水平专家多指点，上海的团队勤能补拙，认真学，大家共同奋斗，也能快速提高。上海加油。”
同一天，微博账号“邓学平律师”发帖说，“身为北京大学中文系教授和博导，这样的文字写作水平，只能说明平时在专业领域的劳动付出还不够多啊！”并配上一张对“张颐武帖子”修改了12处的图片。
5月1日晚上，张颐武回应，随手写的微博，确实没有修饰得完美，但费心弄了半天也挑不出什么硬伤。
张颐武的回应引发群嘲，不少网友感叹“这就是北大中文系的教授吗？就这段文字而言，这也太‘水’了。”
还有网友称，描述一件事情而已，初中生都不会犯这些错误吧！北大真的是中国的最高学府吗？这种人教中文，学生能学到什么？
有网友表示，“挺难堪的！态度不端正也是学术不端啊！张教授应该回到家从头再来一次。”
有网友说，“大学名教授的语文基础知识的层次令人堪忧。”
但也有网友认为，这段文字没有什么毛病，修改了12处纯是吹毛求疵。
对此，上游新闻引述重庆一位语文高级教师郑老师称，张颐武的这段文字确实存在一些问题，比如用词多余、语义含糊，但最大的问题在于书面语与口语混用。书面语和口语是两种完全不同的表达方式，应该尽量避免混用，否则容易表达不清，给阅读者造成理解障碍和困难。
据百度百科，张颐武， 1962年8月出生，浙江温州人，1993年5月加入民进，1987年7月参加工作，硕士研究生，教授、博士生导师。著名评论家，文化学者。
现任十三届全国政协文化文史和学习委员会委员，北京市第十五届人民代表大会代表，教科文卫体委员会副主任，北京大学中文系教授，民进中央委员、文化艺术委员会副主任，民进北京市委会副主委。
据网易报导，张颐武算是个媒体学者，上过百家讲坛，经常出入电视节目，当年批评《马桥词典》涉嫌抄袭《哈扎尔辞典》。韩少功认为是”一次有预谋的文化扼杀”。起诉张颐武等人侵犯其名誉权，并获得胜诉。
报导称，张颐武被大众熟悉，因为说出了这样一段话：“一个姚明，一个章子怡，比一万个孔子都有效果。《大长今》就是韩国把低端和高端的文化打通的一个好例子。所以，要像重视孔子一样重视章子怡，中国文化才会有未来。”
报导称，张颐武的本意是要重视文化输出，但总是词不达意，搞得舆论沸沸扬扬。
经常攻击方方
在批评方方的大军里边，北大教授张颐武可以说是名气最大的，毕竟是北大教授的招牌，不是司马南、周小平之类能比的。方方曾称，张颐武是“带头大哥”。
张颐武批评方方的方式与别人不同，他一直逮着方方不放，只要西方媒体有什么方方的消息，张颐武总会第一时间站出来议论一番，大有不把方方打成“汉奸”、“卖国贼”誓不罢休的气势。
日前，张颐武又批评方方，说方方引领西方媒体把攻击对象集中在核酸检测上。
