5月1日，北京大學中文系教授、博士生導師張頤武（擁有920萬粉絲）在微博上發表了一則有關上海防疫的帖子，其內容是「專家作用不能忽視，有葉財德這樣一些專業的有經驗的社區防控的專家的指點幫助，上海防控的水平有了提高，總體感染下降了。這當然上海的所有人共同努力的成果。現在把救治提高，讓全國的高水平專家多指點，上海的團隊勤能補拙，認真學，大家共同奮鬥，也能快速提高。上海加油。」
同一天，微博賬號「鄧學平律師」發帖說，「身為北京大學中文系教授和博導，這樣的文字寫作水平，只能說明平時在專業領域的勞動付出還不夠多啊！」並配上一張對「張頤武帖子」修改了12處的圖片。
5月1日晚上，張頤武回應，隨手寫的微博，確實沒有修飾得完美，但費心弄了半天也挑不出什麼硬傷。
張頤武的回應引發群嘲，不少網友感嘆「這就是北大中文系的教授嗎？就這段文字而言，這也太『水』了。」
還有網友稱，描述一件事情而已，初中生都不會犯這些錯誤吧！北大真的是中國的最高學府嗎？這種人教中文，學生能學到什麼？
有網友表示，「挺難堪的！態度不端正也是學術不端啊！張教授應該回到家從頭再來一次。」
有網友說，「大學名教授的語文基礎知識的層次令人堪憂。」
但也有網友認為，這段文字沒有什麼毛病，修改了12處純是吹毛求疵。
對此，上游新聞引述重慶一位語文高級教師鄭老師稱，張頤武的這段文字確實存在一些問題，比如用詞多餘、語義含糊，但最大的問題在於書面語與口語混用。書面語和口語是兩種完全不同的表達方式，應該儘量避免混用，否則容易表達不清，給閱讀者造成理解障礙和困難。
據百度百科，張頤武， 1962年8月出生，浙江溫州人，1993年5月加入民進，1987年7月參加工作，碩士研究生，教授、博士生導師。著名評論家，文化學者。
現任十三屆全國政協文化文史和學習委員會委員，北京市第十五屆人民代表大會代表，教科文衛體委員會副主任，北京大學中文系教授，民進中央委員、文化藝術委員會副主任，民進北京市委會副主委。
據網易報導，張頤武算是個媒體學者，上過百家講壇，經常出入電視節目，當年批評《馬橋詞典》涉嫌抄襲《哈扎爾辭典》。韓少功認為是”一次有預謀的文化扼殺”。起訴張頤武等人侵犯其名譽權，並獲得勝訴。
報導稱，張頤武被大眾熟悉，因為說出了這樣一段話：「一個姚明，一個章子怡，比一萬個孔子都有效果。《大長今》就是韓國把低端和高端的文化打通的一個好例子。所以，要像重視孔子一樣重視章子怡，中國文化才會有未來。」
報導稱，張頤武的本意是要重視文化輸出，但總是詞不達意，搞得輿論沸沸揚揚。
經常攻擊方方
在批評方方的大軍裡邊，北大教授張頤武可以說是名氣最大的，畢竟是北大教授的招牌，不是司馬南、周小平之類能比的。方方曾稱，張頤武是「帶頭大哥」。
張頤武批評方方的方式與別人不同，他一直逮着方方不放，只要西方媒體有什麼方方的消息，張頤武總會第一時間站出來議論一番，大有不把方方打成「漢奸」、「賣國賊」誓不罷休的氣勢。
日前，張頤武又批評方方，說方方引領西方媒體把攻擊對象集中在核酸檢測上。
