香港大學今年稍早去信支聯會，要求在10月13日前移走校園內由丹麥雕塑家高志活擁有、紀念六四事件的雕塑「國殤之柱」，但支聯會、高志活本人極力反對，而校方至今未有行動。
香港01刊登評論文章稱，有「教育沙皇」之稱的港大校委會主席李國章，近日傳出本月底退任，由監警會主席兼大律師王沛詩接替。李國章一向作風強悍，任內處理過不少政治炸彈，但可能來不及處理國殤之柱。
撰寫評論的沙半山援引知情人士透露，港大本身在10月已準備直接動手拆除國殤之柱，但由於臨時收到提示，因此緊急煞停，估計未來數月國殤之柱「不會有事」。
港大於10月7日去信支聯會，要求支聯會於10月13日下午5時前，移走「國殤之柱」，否則視之為放棄。支聯會其後回復港大指，「國殤之柱」屬於原創者高志活，對方已公開表明他是「國殤之柱」擁有人，亦得悉對方正委託律師跟進有關情況，故支聯會認為港大直接與高志活代表律師接洽較合適。
高志活其後向傳媒發聲明指，已成功在港委聘律師，並向港大發出律師信，要求召開聆訊（hearing）。事件亦升至外交層面，丹麥外交大臣科弗德（Jeppe Kofoed）於10月15日發表聲明，表示雖然丹麥政府無權決定其他國家的大學選擇展示甚麼藝術品，但自己必須對世界上其他地方的言論自由及藝術自由警惕，已向北京當局反映意見。高志活於11月中表示，希望親自來港處理，但必須得到香港政府保證他和團隊不會因《國安法》被捕，港府拒絕評論此事，事件繼續膠著。
